lego meets art

Growing up, I remember our house full of legos. There was a big plastic container of legos that my brothers would play with for hours, constructing different things and letting their imaginations go.  I remember stepping on random lego pieces on the floor and the yellow helmut head the lego figures had. I never imagined that legos could be constructed into huge lifelike sculptures like the ones I saw on Friday.

I had a chance to visit the Art Science Museum by the Marina Bay Sands hotel for the first time. They had two special exhibits, one was a mummies exhibit and the other was an exhibit by Nathan Sawaya called the Art of the Brick. I really enjoyed seeing how Nathan Sawaya used lego blocks for his art. I was really blown away by his creativity and talent. There was this one quote on the wall from him, where he realized that he had more fun sitting on a floor building sculptures than sitting in a boardroom negotiating contracts as a lawyer. I’m glad he chose to pursue what he was passionate about!Unfortunately, today is the last day of his exhibit here in Singapore. DSC_0361DSC_0363 DSC_0373 DSC_0376DSC_0381DSC_0385DSC_0387 DSC_0388 DSC_0390 DSC_0396 DSC_0402 DSC_0404 DSC_0406 DSC_0412 DSC_0415 DSC_0423 DSC_0428 DSC_0433

Isn’t it amazing what can be done with those little blocks! I had a chance to see some of his work once but no photos were allowed. I’m jealous you got to preserve this bit of art.

DANG those sculptures are nuts. The yellow ripping chest open one really hit me. I can feel his pain… and he is made of LEGOS?!
